Should I replace my timing belt at the recommended interval?
Yes! If a timing belt fails, it causes major damage to the engine. It is much less costly to replace a timing belt as a preventative measure than to repair the engine when one fails.
What does my check engine, service engine soon or malfunction indicator (MIL) light mean?
This is an emissions and engine performance indicator and it is letting you know that one of the many sensors or computer components has registered a fault code. Your car may seem to run fine or it can run poorly. It is best to have the car checked to address the issue and prevent further problems. You cannot pass the state emissions test with a check engine, service engine soon or malfunction indicator light on.
What should I do if my car starts to overheat?
This is a very serious problem. Overheating can cause damage to your engine. As soon as possible, safely pull off the road and turn the car off! Do not attempt to check the fluid level in the radiator or coolant expansion tank since the fluid is very hot and may cause severe burns. It is best to have the car towed to the repair shop.
When should I change my oil?
We recommend changing your oil every 5000 miles if you use synthetic oil or 3000 miles if you use non-synthetic oil. We caution owners to change the oil frequently enough to prevent sludge buildup. Longer mileage between oil changes leads to this condition.
Why is my engine oil a milky brown color?
This is an indication that there is coolant in the engine oil. This can be caused by a blown head gasket or other gasket, a failed transmission cooler or cracked casings. It is important to have the car checked immediately. The oil is the life blood of the engine and coolant in engine oil compromises the lubrication abilities of the oil, causing engine damage.
How do I make sure my battery has a good electrical connection?
Battery cables and terminals should be cleaned and inspected periodically to make sure they provide a good electrical connection.
When should I replace my car's fuel filter?
Replace you car's fuel filter as recommended in your vehicle's owner's manual.
What's a micro, pollen or cabin filter?
A micro, pollen or cabin filter is a filter for the interior car ventilation system to keep the dust and particulates from entering the interior of your car.
